Daily Energy Protection
Combining Physical and Energetic habits for your protection
One of the most common questions I get in Reiki 1 classes is how to protect your energy.
Most students come to class knowing that they’re an Empath or a Highly Sensitive Person, but not knowing what to do with that.
They’ve taken the quizzes and seen the sites, but never taken the time to learn how to protect their energy.
Before I get into it, I use the word “protect” here loosely.
In the grand scheme of things, we are all one, and there’s nothing for you to protect yourself from.
With that, we’re all still in the dream of separation and with our ego on board, it really feels like there’s some protection that needs to be done.
Such is the paradox of life and learning and magic. ✨
There’s really nothing to protect ourselves from, yet we still practice protection.
Now that that’s out of the way…
I fully believe that energy protection is just energy maintenance.
In the same way that you don’t have to “protect” your body to stay healthy, you don’t have to “protect” your energy.
If you’re eating well, washing your hands, and taking care of your physical body, then it’s protecting itself naturally.
The same is true with your energy body.
If you put good things into your energy body, keep it clean, and take care of it, protection happens naturally.
Wash Your Hands
If you pick up poop with your hands, you wash them (I hope).
The same logic applies to any poop you pick up energetically.
If you come across something that doesn’t sit right, take a time out to energetically cleanse.
This is especially important for Empaths.
As you go throughout your day, you’re going to run into things that don’t match your energy, it’s part of life.
So it’s important to take breaks to wash your hands and clean up throughout the day.
In my Reiki classes, I offer students to combine it with physical hand washing.
The water helps both physically and energetically.
As you wash your hands, visualize not only the dirt and germs washing away, but any energetic gunk that you’ve picked up as well.
Let it all wash down the drain with the water.
If you don’t have quick access to a sink, then do the whole process in your mind, the effect will be just as good.
Find a quick quiet place to close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, then visualize yourself washing your hands.
Since it’s in your mind, maybe it helps to clean up in a lake, an ocean, or a river.
It’s your visualization, so make it work for you.
Either way, it only takes 20 seconds, and you’re back and ready for action.
Bathe
Again the physical and the energetic bodies line up.
Every time you shower or bathe, set the intention for your energetic body to cleanse as well.
So much of our energy is tied up with intention, so it’s important to set it before you start.
If you stop bathing for a few days, no one will notice (maybe), but give it a week and things start to change (definitely).
We tend to neglect our energy bodies because it takes longer to notice, but it’s still there.
I’m a big advocate of combining our energetic practices with our physical practices.
We are one being, so there’s not a need to separate the two.
Of course you still can, it might be easier for you to take a real shower and then visualize an energy shower.
If that’s your path, then do it.
All that matters is that you’re taking the time to keep both bodies clean and getting rid of the dirt.
Get Dressed
Are you noticing a theme? 😅
We get dressed in the morning to start the day without a second thought, but many times we leave ourselves energetically naked!
The easiest fix for this is (of course), intention.
The same way that clothes protect our physical body, the intention you set will protect your energetic body.
Part of my “getting dressed” routine is setting up a Reiki Shield Aura (The RSA) every morning.
Now when I leave home without it, I literally feel naked.
I rarely forget it these days, but when I do, I notice it pretty quickly.
I also love to use crystals to help me get dressed.
I have a set that I always bring in my pocket, and a few that change out with my outfit.
Sometimes it’s a necklace, sometimes it’s a bracelet, and always it’s a crystal in the pocket.
Just like when you pick your favorite shirt to go into the world in confidence, pick your favorite crystal to give that same confidence to your energy.
Environment
Just like in the physical world, we don’t always have control of our environment, and that’s ok.
Part of our journey is learning how to hold boundaries and exist in places that don’t always resonate with us.
That could be your home, your work office, your room, or a coffee shop.
Sometimes the only solution is to leave, if that’s the case, do it.
You should never force yourself to stay somewhere that’s unhealthy.
Other times, I look at an environment and know that I’m going to be doing some community service to clean it up, like those beach cleanup volunteer groups.
The first tool I reach for with any cleanup are crystals.
I trialed this in my office with an Energy Protection Kit from Everything Just Rocks.
It included a few crystals: black kyanite, blue kyanite, black tourmaline, and selenite.
I hid it near the door to my office, so that it set up a boundary for anyone walking in.
I charged it with the intention that it would act as a filter for people as they walked through the door.
The intention was there so that any bad vibes got caught at the door way and only pure intentions came through.
Wow what a difference it made.
I would see people coming in hot down the hallway, hit the boundary, and immediately relax.
Instead of coming in fuming, they would come to their senses, and soften a bit.
The effect was so noticeable that I bought three more kits to keep around the office in key places where conversations tended to get heated.
Common Theme
While we tend to see the physical and the energetic as something different, we can maintain them the same way.
When we keep them maintained, protection is a natural byproduct.
Whenever you’re doing something for your physical body, I encourage you to find the connection to your energetic body as well.
This can even apply to eating and working out.
Check in with your intuition as you do your daily tasks and find out how you can improve your energetic hygiene as well.
