Signs, Social Media, & Turtles

Everything is a sign! šŸŖ§

The Universe is always speaking to us.

The problem is that most of the time weā€™re too wrapped up in our minds to notice it.

One of my favorite author/teachers, Ted Andrews, once said that everything is a sign.

No matter what it is, if it speaks to you, itā€™s a sign.

Sometimes that sign can be big and point you in a new direction for your life.

Sometimes that sign can be small and simply give you encouragement to keep going (which is honestly still a really big sign).

Iā€™ve embraced the idea that everything is a sign and allowed myself to believe that Iā€™m a powerful creator that speaks to myself through the Universe through these signs.

Itā€™s sorta meta, but think about itā€¦

We are just infinite parts of the Divine experiencing itself in its own reflection.

Every rock, every human, every animal, every thing is simply a reflection of us.

So going with that, I trust that I can give myself a sign whenever I need (or want) it.

It might feel like it comes from my guides or the Universe or some higher power, but at the end of the day, itā€™s a love note from me to myself.

When Iā€™m feeling really lucky, itā€™s blatant and in my face. Thereā€™s no thinking or pondering required.

One such example is the inspiration for the title above.

Imagine it, Iā€™m scrolling on social media (technically buffering/checking out, but thatā€™s a different story), even though Iā€™m incredibly stressed about my creative process, money and my job.

But being in slight denial about it and letting myself believe that Iā€™m relaxing because Iā€™m on social media (hint: I wasnā€™t).

I come across a post that literally says, ā€œIf you see a turtle in the next 24 hoursā€¦ you need to slow down and let yourself flow freely without the pressure of creation or productivity.ā€

I laughed to myself (the mild denial) because I was already slowing down, I mean, I was on social media and relaxing right?!

I literally had the thought that, ā€œI wonā€™t see a turtle, Iā€™m doing it just fine.ā€

I didnā€™t even screenshot or save the post because I was so sure of myself.

Not even 10 minutes later, I come across a friend's post andā€¦ Can you guess what animal was in it?

If you didnā€™t guess turtle, Iā€™m worried about your reasoning skills. But yes, it was a turtle.

šŸ¢šŸ¢šŸ¢

One of my friends had posted about running into a turtle while walking his dog. The post had both an actual turtle in it, along with a cute little animated gif of one!

I literally laughed out loud. And Iā€™m very happy I wasnā€™t drinking anything at the moment or I would have spit it out all over my screen.

It was so shocking to me, that I had to go back and find the previous turtle post so that I could screenshot and actually read it.

Needless to say, I took it to heart the second time I read it.

Which leads me to, signs are only as good as the action you take from them.

A stop sign does no good if everyone keeps ignoring it.

The same applies to the signs that the Universe gives.

They require some type of action.

That action can be as small as changing your attitude.

Or as big as finally quitting your job.

So in my turtle example, I turned off the social media and allowed myself to create something silly. Something that I wasnā€™t going to show anyone. I did some journaling and wrote some things that no one will ever see.

I created without the need to feel like I was creating or the need to feel productive.

And it helped to change my perspective.

Plus I did some more work with turtle magic.

Slowing down, protecting yourself, and then moving with deliberate intent.

That sign changed the trajectory of my week. Suddenly, I was in a better mood!

Mostly because I was taking time to have fun and not worry about being productive, which ironically increased my productivity.

The joys of the human experience. šŸ˜…

So how can you open yourself up to getting more signs from the Universe?

Itā€™s as easy as making a commitment to be aware of them, and then looking out in the world for them.

Literally everything is a sign.

I also suggest keeping a journal of the signs you come across.

It can be as simple as a notebook or as detailed as a digital spreadsheet (and yes, I have used both. I might be a bit of a spreadsheet nerd.)

Start your day with a goal to see all the signs that the Universe gives you.

Then go about your day, thatā€™s all it takes.

When you see something and you think, ā€œIs this a sign?ā€ Add that to your journal.

Note the time, date, place, sign, and any thoughts you might have been having.

There are no limits to the number, quality, type, speed, or message of the signs that the Universe will give you.

It could be seeing 5:55 on the clock.

(555 usually means a change is coming, so review your thoughts and how that might be changing soon.)

It could be seeing a post on social media with a turtle that reminds you to slow down.

Or maybe you see a rose on TV and it reminds you how much you love your partner and you want to find a new way to express that to them, whether thatā€™s with roses or some other gesture.

One of my friends gets messages through his car.

He has one of those cars that the text messages display on the screen when someone texts him.

When thereā€™s someone that he needs to reach out to (whatever the reason), their name starts to pop up whenever anyone texts him.

No matter who texts, every message looks like itā€™s from that other person.

And the moment he reaches out to them, the car goes back to normal.

Trust in the Universe, trust in yourself, follow the signs that you get and see how things change for you.

Remember, everything is a sign

And just like with any other sign, you can choose whether or not you follow it.

You have free will.

My word of advice would be to follow it like you follow any other sign. Read it, then make a conscious decision one way or another. Just be deliberate about it.

In the same way that you can read a ā€œSALEā€ sign and decide not to buy, you have choices.

And itā€™s up to you to determine whether itā€™s a simple ā€œsaleā€ sign or a ā€œSTOPā€ sign keeping you safely on your path.

Happy sign hunting! Let me know what things pop up for you and how you handle them.
