Spirit Guide Spotlight: Lion šŸ¦

Working with Lion as a spirit animal guide

The first spirit guide I ever worked with was Lion.

There was a meditation in a book I found at the library (shoutout to Animal Speak) and Lion introduced themself to me.

At first, I thought it was just my imagination ā€œbeing lazyā€.

Iā€™m a Leo, so I told myself it was just my brain making something up.

But after a few repeated appearances, I finally gave in and accepted my first spirit guide.

Luckily, he was patient and kept coming back!

Animal Magic

Perhaps itā€™s because Animal Speak was one of my first metaphysical books, or maybe just being a nature lover, Iā€™ve always worked with a lot of animal magic.

The natural world is always speaking to us, and there are unlimited ways for us to get the message.

It also helps that humans have been working alongside animals for all of time, itā€™s a connection that just makes sense.

One of the first things I asked Lion was how he could help me.

I was 16, closeted, hormonal, and strictly ā€œreligiousā€ (yes, I see the irony, thanks šŸ˜‰).

Of course I was worried about ā€œwhatā€™s in it for meā€.

And like any good guide/teacher, he made me do most of the leg work.

Lion Power

Iā€™ve always loved lions.

I used to do reports on them in school, I had stuffed animals, and of course loved the Lion King.

I knew a decent amount about them just off the top of my head.

I came up with a few of the standard Lion answers that most people think of.

Courage, confidence, community, and even camouflage.

All things that I was definitely looking for and wanted more of in my life.

Camouflage

The thing I wanted to do the most was to blend in.

There was a feeling of safety of being able to hide in the environment and not be seen.

Lion taught me techniques for moving around unnoticed.

Simple things like keeping neutral clothes, to more advanced topics like adjusting my aura.

Like a lion hunting its prey, I could move around almost completely invisible.

Something as simple as feeling invisible, actually started to build my confidence.

Knowing I could hide when needed helped to empower me.

Courage & Confidence

Camouflage then turned into confidence because I realized that I couldnā€™t always hide.

For those scary 16-year-old moments, whether it was asking someone to the Homecoming dance or auditioning to be in the play, even just a little bit of courage helped push me forward.

When I was going into those situations, I would take a moment to ask Lion to lend me a little bit of confidence, mixed with a lot of courage.

Then I would take a deep breath and do what I needed to do.

It always helped to move me into something new, even if the end result wasnā€™t exactly what I wanted.

(They said yes to the Homecoming dance, but I didnā€™t get the part in the play, since you asked.)

As the courage was felt and the confidence grew, I was able to take different kinds of risks.

I found ways to do the things I loved to do and in new ways.

I even found a way to use my voice (that lion roar) and started to sing as part of my church youth group.

The more I leaned into my Lion skills, the better my life became.

Community

Which brought me into my community.

Despite my closeted spirituality (and sexuality), I found a community in a church youth group.

The Lion in me stepped up and even volunteered for leadership roles.

Lions are highly social creatures and this was something that I was excited to experience.

The other skills had all led up to this one and it was an amazing experience.

These new friends helped encourage me and helped to ground me while other kids my age were getting into trouble.

Walk Like A Lion

The more I worked with Lion, the more gifts I received.

Some continued to be kind of intangible, like courage or camouflage, but some were specifically more physical.

To this day, when Iā€™m in a potentially anxiety filled situation (whether perceived or reality), I call on Lion to help me out.

Itā€™s given me a specific kind of walking gait that a few friends have pointed out in curiosity.

I donā€™t usually do it on purpose, but it just sorta happens when I ask for Lionā€™s help in a situation.

Ask For Support

One of the awesome things about spirit guides is all the different ways they can help you.

Lion doesnā€™t have to be one of your primary guides for you to ask for help.

Whether you need some extra camouflage or a little bit of courage, call on Lion for support.

Try this:

  1. Schedule 15 (or more) minutes where you wonā€™t be interrupted and put your phone on ā€œDo Not Disturbā€.

  2. Do a little research, see how Lion can help you.

  3. Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and let yourself relax.

  4. Focus on your breathing and let your mind quiet down.

  5. Visualize yourself in your ideal relaxing environment

    • It could be a forest, a beach, or a jungle

  6. Invite Lion into your environment and wait

    • They might reveal themselves visually, with a smell, or with just a ā€œknowingā€. Trust whatever you get.

  7. Ask Lion for support in whatever areas you want it

    • It could be just one specific thing, or maybe thereā€™s a whole list of things that you researched.

  8. Listen

    • This is the most important step. You might see a color, feel an emotion, or get actual words.

  9. Say thank you, open your eyes, and focus on your body and your breath.

  10. Record any messages that you received in your journal or your notes app.
