Pick A Card!

Choose your own adventure, pick a card to move you forward. ✨

One of my favorite uses for tarot (or really any card deck) is for motivation and inspiration.

You can do a reading and let the cards inspire you.

Or you can pull a random card and find motivation in the message.

Recently I’ve been using the cards as a kind of spirit guide.

When I start a new project, I’ll draw a card to see who will help inspire me.

Then I keep that card propped up at my desk to help guide me.

I use a card holder and then actually talk with it when I’m looking for a little inspiration.

Currently I’m being inspired by 3 different tarot cards.

The special deck I’m using is my first copy of the Light Seers Tarot.

The cards are a little bigger and I love the colors and the images.

My current project involves the Page of Wands, so she’s on my desk.

My current personal development involves Temperance, so they’re on my desk.

And my long term goals involve the Knight of Pentacles, so he’s on my desk.

(Luckily I got a 3-card holder a few years ago for my birthday and it’s been put to a lot of use!)

These cards were hand picked to help me in my projects.

With each new idea or thing that I’m working on, I decide on a few things I’m looking for.

For example, the Knight of Pentacles.

When I started reviewing my long term goals, I was constantly reminding myself of the power of little daily steps. (The Slight Edge is a great example of this.)

Even if I was only going to make one small move each day towards those goals, I was looking for someone to help with that.

So with that in mind, I grabbed my tarot deck, face up, and started going through all the cards.

I go through an elimination process each time.

I pull any cards that sorta align with it and then eliminate others until I end up with just one.

The fun part is that there’s no wrong answer.

Your intuition will help guide you to the card that’s the best helper for you.

As I take a look around my desk, I now realize I have 5 different cards scattered around that all mean something to me.

I also recently did this with an oracle card deck.

Spider had shown up in my life and I wanted to find a way to continue to bring her message into my everyday thoughts. 🕷️

I looked through all my decks and found an animal one that had the perfect representation of Spider that I was looking for.

I kept Spider on my desk for quite a while as I worked on integrating new skills and finding new ways of “hunting” clients that required less work and more strategy. 🕸️

Choose Your Adventure

Try this 1-card trick when you’re looking for a way to keep something top of mind and work towards a goal.

  1. Schedule some quiet time to yourself where you won’t be interrupted.

    • It could be 5 minutes to 1 hour, whatever you need.

  2. Decide on what you’re looking for help with.

    • It could be money mindset, healing, chores, energy, family, manifesting, etc

  3. Grab your favorite deck, or just a deck that’s currently inspiring you.

    • Just make sure you won’t be using the deck for a reading anytime soon. I use extra copies of decks that I already have.

  4. Go through the cards, face up, and pull out ones that match your desire

  5. When you have your first stack, go through them again and eliminate the ones that don’t really match.

  6. Then continue to eliminate until you only have one left.

    • This is your card!

  7. Now take some time to journal about why you chose this card.

    • You might not have a full answer but some things will definitely stick out.

    • Maybe it’s the scene, the people, the colors, the energy, or the feelings you get from it.

    • One of my current cards is the “Two of Tides” from Mindscapes Tarot. I’m manifesting an ocean view from my home and having this image on my desk constantly puts that image into my mind, like a Vision Board. Let alone the message behind the card is about partnerships and I’m manifesting this dream with my partner!

  8. Set the card up on your desk.

    • You can get a fancy card holder, prop it up against your computer monitor, or even tape it to the wall!

Remember that there’s no right or wrong answer.

The card you pick is just for you.

Sometimes it will make total sense, other times it won’t, and that’s ok.

Sometimes it just loosely ties to something you’re working on and sometimes the point is clear.

The next question is, “How long do you keep it up at your desk?”

And the answer is the usual one, “Check with your intuition”.

For project related cards, I put them away when the project is complete. They go back into their deck.

For concept related cards, my intuition will let me know when it’s time for a new one.

One of my cards is my “theme of the year”, so it will stay with me until the new year.

Some have time limits and some have no limits.

Trust your intuition to tell you when it’s time to move to something new.

For example, before I had the Knight of Pentacles for my long term goals, I had the Magician.

I was looking to manifest and use the tools at my disposal to create my long term goals.

Then one day, I realized I was doing that work and fully capable of using all the tools around me.

I needed a new inspiration, one that would remind me that doing little steps each day builds a future.

Your Turn

If you’re looking to feel more abundant, search out the Empress or the 9 of Pentacles.

If you’re looking for love, check in with the 10 of Cups or the Queen of Cups.

I usually use the tarot because it covers the entire range of our human lives, so I know there’s always something I can find to inspire me.

Now if you’re really not sure what or who to use, then let me know.

Part of the Teach Yourself Tarot coaching program is understanding the cards at an experience level so that you can find these things easily.

When you know the cards from an intuitive standpoint, you can quickly choose a card for each bit of inspiration.
